Editorial standards

Ethics Policy

Last updated July 8, 2026

This Ethics Policy sets out the principles and rules that govern Legal AI Insight's editorial operations. It supplements our Editorial Policy and Corrections Policy by addressing the ethical standards that ensure our coverage remains credible, independent, and trustworthy.

Editorial independence

Legal AI Insight's editorial content is produced independently of commercial interests. The following principles are non-negotiable:

  • Editorial decisions are made by editors. Product reviews, scores, comparisons, rankings, and editorial recommendations are determined solely by our editorial team based on stated methodology. No one outside the editorial team — including advertisers, affiliate partners, vendors, investors, or business partners — has input into or veto power over editorial content.
  • Coverage is not for sale. No vendor, advertiser, or partner can purchase favorable coverage, a positive review, a higher score, a specific ranking, or editorial placement of any kind.
  • Financial relationships do not determine content. The existence or absence of an affiliate, advertising, or commercial relationship with a vendor has no bearing on our editorial assessment of that vendor's products.

Affiliate disclosure ethics

Legal AI Insight earns revenue through affiliate commissions. We are committed to ethical disclosure practices that meet or exceed the requirements of the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides:

  • Clear and conspicuous disclosure. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on every page that contains affiliate links. Disclosure language appears prominently near relevant content, not buried in fine print.
  • No misleading placement. We do not structure content or design pages to obscure the commercial nature of affiliate links or to create the impression that affiliate content is purely editorial when it is not.
  • Full transparency page. We maintain a dedicated Affiliate Disclosure page that explains our affiliate relationships in detail, including how commissions work and how they do not affect our editorial judgments.
  • Equal disclosure. We apply the same disclosure standards regardless of the affiliate commission rate or the vendor involved.

No pay-for-play

Legal AI Insight does not participate in pay-for-play arrangements of any kind:

  • Vendors cannot pay for inclusion in our product comparisons, roundups, or rankings.
  • Vendors cannot pay for a specific score, star rating, or editorial verdict.
  • Advertising and sponsored content are clearly distinguished from editorial content through labeling, placement, and design treatment.
  • Vendor-sponsored content, if any, is produced independently of editorial operations and is never integrated into our editorial reviews or comparisons.

Accuracy requirements

Accuracy is a core ethical obligation, not merely an editorial standard:

  • Verify before publishing. Every factual claim in our reviews and comparisons — pricing, features, integrations, compliance certifications, security details — must be verified against primary sources before publication.
  • Current information. We indicate when product information was last verified and commit to regular review cycles. We do not present outdated information as current.
  • Correct promptly. When errors are identified — by our editorial team, by readers, or by vendors — we correct them promptly and transparently, as described in our Corrections Policy.
  • Honest limitations. We disclose the scope and limitations of our testing methodology. We do not claim to have evaluated aspects of a product we have not assessed.

Conflict of interest

We take conflicts of interest seriously and manage them proactively:

  • Financial interests. Editorial team members must disclose any financial interest — including stock ownership, consulting relationships, or employment history — with any legal AI vendor covered on the site. The editorial team will assess whether the interest creates an actual or perceived conflict and, if so, will reassign coverage to a team member without that interest.
  • Personal relationships. Editorial team members must disclose personal relationships with vendor employees that could affect or appear to affect their coverage.
  • Recusal. When a conflict is identified, the affected team member is recused from editorial decisions related to the vendor in question. Coverage is reassigned to a team member with no conflict.
  • Ongoing monitoring. We maintain a conflict-of-interest register and review it regularly as part of our editorial operations.

Vendor relationship boundaries

Our relationships with legal AI vendors are professional and purposeful — we engage with vendors to gather accurate product information for our reviews. These relationships are bounded by clear rules:

  • No editorial preview. Vendors do not see, review, or approve editorial content before publication. We share published articles with vendors after publication only as a courtesy.
  • Gift and hospitality limits. We accept no gifts, meals, or hospitality from vendors that exceed nominal value (under $50). We do not accept travel, lodging, or event tickets from vendors.
  • No equity or investment. Legal AI Insight and its editorial team do not hold equity, options, or investment positions in any legal AI vendor covered on the site.
  • No preferred treatment. Access to our editorial team is available to all vendors on equal terms. We do not grant exclusive access or favorable treatment to vendors based on commercial relationships.
  • Formal fact-checking only. Vendors may request factual corrections, which are handled through our standard corrections process. We do not make changes to editorial assessments, scores, or opinions based on vendor feedback alone.

The Legal AI Insight editorial code

Every member of the Legal AI Insight editorial team is expected to uphold these principles:

  • Independence first. Editorial integrity is our highest priority. No commercial consideration overrides it.
  • Honesty with readers. We tell readers what we know, what we don't know, and what our limitations are.
  • Transparency. We disclose our methodology, our funding, our affiliations, and our errors.
  • Accountability. We take responsibility for our work and correct it when it falls short.
  • Fairness. We evaluate every product by the same standards and give every vendor equal treatment.

Enforcement

Violations of this Ethics Policy are treated seriously. Any editorial team member who violates these principles will be subject to editorial review and appropriate action, up to and including removal from the editorial team. Readers who have concerns about our adherence to these standards should contact editor@legalaiinsight.com.
